Sommer is Borussia’s player of the month for April

For the third time of the season, Borussia fans have voted Yann Sommer Player of the Month, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. The goalkeeper was the clear winner for April’s award.

Yann Sommer claimed almost 62% of votes from fans in the FohlenApp and won the award by a distance ahead of Breel Embolo (17%), Lars Stindl (11%) and Alassane Plea (10%). Sommer has been a consistent performer throughout the whole season and was awarded the Player of the Month awards in December and January. April sees the goalkeeper secure his third award of the campaign after a strong month, including a brilliant performance in the 1-1 draw against Mainz. The 33-year-old pulled off several world-class saves to earn his team a point. Particularly impressive was his save to stop an effort from Jonathan Burkardt in the 48th minute. The Switzerland international was then on hand in the final phases, pulling off two good saves within seconds of each other to prevent Burkardt and Jae-sung Lee from clinching the winning goal. Sommer’s top performance was recognised by the Foals fans, with 89% of all votes being in favour of the goalkeeper for the Player of the Match award in the FohlenApp.

In April, Sommer recorded a clean sheet Fürth (2-0) and pulled off some good saves during the clashes with 1. FC Köln (1-3) and SC Freiburg (3-3).
