“A great team performance” – #BMGRBL reaction

We gathered the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 3-1 win over RB Leipzig on Monday night.

Yann Sommer: Today was a great team performance. We were very compact, defended well and were clinical with our chances. The red card was a tough blow, but it was important that Nico took the hit for the team in that moment. Even a man down, we continued to fight and defended our goal well. Everyone fought for each other – that was the key. It was important that we added a third as well; that really gave us confidence. We have two more games and we want to win those too so we can end the season on a positive note.

Luca Netz: Our game plan worked really well. We started well, got stuck in and enjoyed a lot of possession too. It was a hard fought match with a lot of yellow cards, but that’s how it is sometimes. It was harder for us with ten men in the second half, but we battled well as a team and gave it everything. There were a few chances for them towards the end, but we have Yann Sommer in goal and he had another great game. It was a deserved win. If we can kick on from that performance, we can have a good end to the season.

Jordan Beyer: We were in the game from the offset and implemented the coach’s game plan. It was a little frustrating that Leipzig equalised with their first real shot, but fortunately we were able to get back in front before half time. The red card was unfortunate, but we all fought hard as a unit, made it 3-1 with ten men and deservedly won the game. I was a little surprised to find myself in the opponents’ box when we were a man down assisting Jonas’ goal. I had a lot of time and saw Hoffi, and he finished it brilliantly. The win does us the world of good, particularly for our confidence going into the final two games. It was an amazing feeling having the fans roaring you on even when you’re a man down – that just keeps pushing you forward.

Adi Hütter: I want to pay credit to my team – I have very few complaints today. We were the better side in the first half by far. The equaliser came out of nowhere, so it was important to get back in front before the break. It was tough in the second half a man down and we have Yann Sommer to thank, but the whole team put in a real battling performance. We played some wonderful football today and were very direct. We certainly had some luck at times, but all in all, I think it’s a deserved win because of the way we fought.

RB Leipzig head coach Domenico Tedesco: Congratulations to Borussia on a deserved win. We weren’t physical enough in the first half. You may as well go ahead and throw your tactics board in the bin if you’re not demonstrating the necessary physicality. We lost the ball too quickly. Gladbach’s third goal come out of nowhere and was the final nail in the coffin. We’re gifting points too often at this important stage of the season.

Luca Netz: "It was a deserved win"
Jordan Beyer: "The fans kept pushing us forward"
