Borussia say goodbye to four Foals

The club said farewell to Matthias Ginter, Keanan Bennetts, Rolf Hülswitt and Markus Müller on Saturday.

The final matchday of a Bundesliga season is always a sad one as it also means the club says goodbye to some players or staff members. Matthias Ginter will leave the club after five years to return to his hometown Freiburg. The centre-back played 179 times in all competitions for Borussia, including in the Champions League and the Europa League.

Keanan Bennetts was a Foal for four years. The 23-year-old English attacker said goodbye to Borussia yesterday too. He featured five times in the Bundesliga and once in the DFB-Pokal. He primarily played for the club’s U23s during his spell in Mönchengladbach.

Calling it a day at the age of 80

Rolf Hülswitt, who is known as the “general” by the players as a sign of respect and also love, has decided to call time on his involvement with the club at the age of 80. In 1985, he began working as a kit man for our reserves, and 14 years later, then head coach Hans Meyer promoted him to the first team. From then onwards, Hülswitt performed the role of kit manager for the first team and has been a reliable and key figure in and around the club. Markus Müller, who’s worked as a fitness coach at VfL since 2016, is also going to leave the club.

There was also a farewell for an old friend on the opposition side, as Havard Nordtveit said his goodbyes to the Bundesliga. The Norwegian, who made 187 appearances for the Foals between 2011 and 2016, was unfortunately unable to take part in yesterday’s match due to injury.
