Bensebaini goal sets up Algeria win

Algeria celebrated a 2-0 victory in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Tanzania on Wednesday evening, with Ramy Bensebaini opening the scoring.

Two games, two wins – the Algeria national team have made the perfect start to qualifying for AFCON 2023 in the Ivory Coast. The North African side followed up their 2-0 win over Uganda with another 2-0 victory in Tanzania on Wednesday, with Borussia’s Ramy Bensebaini playing an important role. The Foal not only started and played 73 minutes at left back, but also opened the scoring for his nation in first-half stoppage time. A free kick was flicked up towards the back post, where Bensebaini climbed highest to head the ball home. It was his sixth international goal in what was his 48th Algeria appearance.

The away side controlled proceedings in the second half and wrapped up victory in the 89th minute thanks to Mohamed El Amine Amoura’s goal. With six points on the board, Bensebaini & Co. lead the way in Group F ahead of Niger on two. Those two nations will meet in a qualifier on 19th September. Next up for Algeria though are friendlies against Congo on Thursday and Senegal on Monday (both 21:30 CEST).
