Lainer's Austria almost upset the French

Stefan Lainer was in the starting line-up as Austria drew 1-1 with France on Friday. Compatriot Hannes Wolf did not feature for his country, nor did Joe Scally as the USA triumphed 5-0.

Our two foals Stefan Lainer (Photo: imago /Gepa pictures) and Hannes Wolf were just minutes away from a shock victory with Austria in the UEFA Nations League. Austria took the lead against France in front of 44,800 supporters in Vienna thanks to a goal from Andi Weimann (37’). The lead lasted until the 83rd minute when Kylian Mbappé was able to bag an equaliser.

While Stefan Lainer was in the team from the start before being taken off after 54 minutes, Wolf had to watch on from the bench as Austria earned a point. That makes it four points from three games in the UEFA Nations League. Next up is a trip to Denmark on Monday evening (20:45 CEST).

Scally fails to appear

The USA celebrated a comfortable 5-0 win over Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League, though Borussia fullback Joe Scally did not appear for his side. Jesus Ferreira put the opposition to the sword as he netted four times (43’, 54’, 56’, 78’). Paul Arriola (63’) notched the fifth for the USA. It was the first match of the campaign for the US who now occupy second place. They visit El Salvador in the early hours of Wednesday morning (04:00 CEST).
