Sommer: “An award that makes me really pleased”

Yann Sommer was voted “Player of the Season 2021/22” by Borussia fans. The goalkeeper, who has just finished international duty with Switzerland, gave short interview to borussia.de.

Yann, you have been voted Player of the Season. How pleased are you with the award?

Yann Sommer: I was really pleased. Of course, the fans’ opinions of our performances are very unique. Therefore I feel even more honoured with the achievement; it’s a great show of support.

Some of your saves this season were absolutely fantastic. Do you have one that particularly sticks in your mind?

Sommer: The deciding saves are always the ones that pick us up some points. I think the save against Mainz is one of those that fall into that category. We could have lost that game, but came away with at least a point.

Mainz striker Johnny Burkhardt was full of praise for you after that game.

Sommer: It’s always a great recognition when an opposition player says something positive about you after the game, so I was obviously pleased about that.

A few days ago, Daniel Farke was appointed as the club’s new head coach. Have you been in contact with him yet?

Sommer: Not yet, but I was informed as soon as the decision had been made. I’ve heard a lot of good things about him – from players who have worked with him or in the same league. I think that it was a good decision for us to hire him as our new head coach.
