Friedrich: "It's important that we all buy in"

Defender Marvin Friedrich reflects on Borussia's new head coach Daniel Farke’s first training sessions in charge and shares his personal goals for the new season.

Marvin, today you completed your third session on the pitch. How was it?

Marvin Friedrich: Very tiring, but that’s part of pre-season. It’s not as enjoyable on the whole but despite that, it’s very important that we all buy in and work hard to create a good foundation for the whole season.

What are your impressions of the new coaching team after the first few sessions?

Friedrich: My first impressions are very positive. Daniel has a clear idea of the way he wants to play and that he wants to teach us. I’m sure that we will be able to carry that out on the pitch.

Can you explain what the coach's playing style is?

Friedrich: We’re only three sessions in, but he has already addressed a lot of structural things. We want to have a lot of possession and I think that will do us good as a team. We still have a lot of work to do during pre-season, but we will be ready for the first game.

You've been with Borussia for half a year now, so this is your first pre-season at the club. How much are you looking forward to the new season?

Friedrich: It was a difficult first six months for me, so I’m pleased that we’re getting going again now and hat I’m involved from the start and can take part in the whole of pre-season. I am confident that we will have a good season.

What are your personal goals for the coming season?

Friedrich: I just want to stay fit, develop personally and help the team. Of course, as a team we want to have as much success as possible, win as many games as we can, have fun and enjoy ourselves.

The first friendly of pre-season comes on Friday against Rot-Weiss Essen. What are your expectations for the game?

Friedrich: We are looking forward to the first game. I think we will see some elements of what the coach has been teaching us. We want to implement them straight away. We’ll definitely feel it in the legs, but that's all part of it.

Two days after the game at RWE, you'll head straight to the training camp at Tegernsee.

Friedrich: I've already heard that Borussia are always accompanied by their fans there. It will be my first time at Tegernsee and I'm really looking forward to it. It's going to be an exhausting few days, but we'll grow even closer together as a team.
