Scally: “We can enjoy the moment for a little bit”

Borussia full back Joe Scally spoke after the 1-0 win against Hertha BSC on the keys to the victory and the upcoming game against Bayern Munich.

Joe, congratulations on the win. What did you think of the game against Hertha BSC?

Scally: Thank you! I think it was a deserved win. Friday night games are always special because you can set the pace too. We manage to do that and in doing so jumped to first place in the league for now, so that gives us confidence.

So as a player do you like looking at the table even at such an early stage of the season?

Scally: Of course it’s way too early to be able to read into the table. Despite that, it’s a good feeling when you’re at the top. We can enjoy that for a little bit.

What do you think the key to success was?

Scally: One key was definitely that we stayed defensively secure and compact for large stretches of the game. It does us good to have kept our first clean sheet of the season.

You could have put the game to bed with the second penalty, which would have eased the pressure for the remainder of the game…

Scally: That’s correct, but penalties always need a little bit of luck. Hoffi is one of our best players. He scored a lot of goals for us last season and if he misses a penalty, it’s just down to bad luck.

Your next game is away against FC Bayern next Saturday (18:30 CEST). What are you expecting from the game?

Scally: Bayern are the best team in the league and have been for many years, but we can go there with confidence. We won in Munich last season and of course we’ll try to do it again, even if we know that we’ve got a tough game in store.

Joe Scally: "It does us good to have kept our first clean sheet of the season."
