Match facts ahead of #BMGM05

Here’s everything you need to know before we meet Mainz on Sunday evening (17:30 CEST) in the Bundesliga.

Spectators:

  • Tickets: Borussia has sold around 51,000 tickets for the match. The home section is sold out; any remaining tickets will be in the away end.
  • Invitations: Borussia have invited year one children from more than 50 primary schools in Mönchengladbach to the game, as well as former year one pupils who missed out on the opportunity in the last two seasons due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Head-to-head record:

  • Sunday’s game will be the 33rd meeting between Borussia and Mainz. The Foals have the better record, with 14 wins. The visitors have won eight of these games, while there have been ten draws.
  • Mainz have won just one of their last 12 Bundesliga games against Gladbach – but have not lost any of the last three.

Fact of the matchday – presented by Interwetten

  • Gladbach have won their last four Bundesliga home games - the last time they enjoyed a longer winning streak on their own turf was three seasons ago under Marco Rose, where they won eight in a row in the league!

Stat attack:

  • Borussia are still undefeated after four matchdays, a feat last managed under Lucien Favre eight seasons ago.
  • Only two Bundesliga teams have created more big chances than the Foals (nine). Gladbach have also scored three times from set pieces – only Bayern have more so far this season.
  • After having gone six games undefeated, Mainz’s last game, a loss to Bayer Leverkusen, was their first league defeat in four months.
  • The “Zerofivers” have won their last three Bundesliga away games, all with a 2-1 scoreline (against Hertha, Bochum and Augsburg). A win here would see Mainz equal their 12-year-old club record of four consecutive away league victories.

Weather:

  • Highs of 22 degrees Celsius are expected for the early Sunday evening fixture in Mönchengladbach. There’s a low probability of rain, with a light wind blowing in a south-east direction.
