Preparations begin for Freiburg

Borussia began preparations for Sunday’s game in Freiburg (17:30 CEST) with a two-hour session on Wednesday afternoon. Stefan Lainer was able to return to team training, while Nico Elvedi and Alassane Plea both missed out due to injury.

Matchday 6 in the Bundesliga sees the Foals travel to face the league leaders again, this time in Freiburg. The previous meeting with the side at the top of the table came on matchday 4 against Bayern (1-1). “It seems as though all our away games right now are always against the team in first place,” joked head coach Daniel Farke. “Freiburg have gotten off to a great start with four wins. They are also strong at home. It won’t be easy for us, but it’s also an opportunity. We have nothing to be scared of, and are more than ready to compete. We are heading there fully motivated and want to hopefully pick up more points.”

Preparations for Sunday’s game began this afternoon with a two-hour session at BORUSSIA-PARK. Stefan Lainer was able to return to team training, having recovered from an inflammation in his knee. “Stevie completed parts of the session, and is looking good. Of course, we have to see how his knee reacts. He’s not at 100% yet, because he also missed a couple of sessions. But, it’s a good sign that he was able to return today,” said Farke.

Nico Elvedi and Alassane Plea both missed the session due to injury. Elvedi suffered a sprained ankle during the game against Mainz (1-0 loss), while Plea picked up a minor strain in the adductor area. “We have to wait and see how the next few days go for Nico. It’s not a major injury,” said the coach. “Lasso will be out for the foreseeable future, but I hope that he will return after the international break.” Ko Itakura will also miss this weekend’s match after being sent off against Mainz, as he serves a one-match ban.
