“It was a standout performance” – #BMGBVB match reaction

We gathered the thoughts of the players and coaches after Borussia’s 4-2 win over Dortmund on Friday night.

Julian Weigl: I think it was a standout performance. I’m sure the fans enjoyed the game as well. It was a real back and forth with lots of goals and plenty of other chances too. I think we deserved to win, even though Dortmund threatened a few times in the first half, but we were able to get something in the way and our young goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky made some great saves. We were courageous, we countered quickly and were able to create some dangerous situations. We can be very happy with our performance.

Jan Olschowsky: I can’t quite believe everything that’s happened. I’m over the moon, especially as the last game didn’t go very well. I could sense during the warm-up that today would be a special one. The performance we delivered as a team was unbelievable. I think the way the game played out was as good as you could hope for. Dortmund had a couple of very strong phases and pushed us back, and it was important that I was on hand in a couple of situations. We continued to have chances of our own though. I’ve been here my whole life and don’t know anything other than BORUSSIA-PARK, so it’s something truly special for me. I’m proud to have played the last two games. They have been very important for my self-belief.

Jonas Hofmann: We started really well with the early goal. We showed a good reaction after their equaliser too, and continued to follow our gameplan and work the ball forward despite the pressure they put on us. Dortmund continued to offer us space to counter into and we were able to take advantage of it on two occasions. The goal straight after the restart definitely helped us keep our cool. We were able to comfortably see out the win and could have scored even more goals.

Daniel Farke: I’m very happy with the way we went about the game and believe that we deserved the scoreline. Both teams were at a very high level in the first half – that was a great advert for the Bundesliga. We showed more courage under pressure and covered more ground to help us work the ball out. The lads also stuck to the plan when it came to dealing with Dortmund’s press. They executed everything really well and created a lot of chances. We had more good goalscoring opportunities after the break and could even have won it by more.

Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic: It’s been a very disappointing week. We went into the game with real desire, and I think you could see that early on. However, we went behind after four minutes through one pass that split us wide open. We allowed too many chances in the first half and defended very poorly in parts. Nevertheless, it could easily have been 3-3 at half time, as we had some very good opportunities to score ourselves. We wanted to keep up the pressure in the second 45 and stop them from scoring any more goals, but that hope went up in smoke inside a minute and I think it killed us off. We didn’t create any clear-cut chances after the break.

Jan Olschowsky: "Something truly special for me"
Daniel Farke: "A great advert for the Bundesliga"
