Final international games of the year for several Foals

Algeria and Ramy Bensebaini lost their final game of 2022 in Sweden. Borussia’s left-back was sent off in a 2-0 defeat. Luca Netz and Jordan Beyer enjoyed a dramatic win in Italy, while Manu Koné and France U21s drew against Norway.

ALGERIA

Algeria and Ramy Bensebaini suffered a 2-0 defeat in Sweden in their final game of 2022. Borussia’s left-back returned to their starting XI, but was sent off in the 34th minute for a second yellow card. Emil Forsberg put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in added time at the end of the first half and then Viktor Claesson sealed the win in the second half (47’).

GERMANY U21s

Germany U21s won 4-2 away against Italy in Ancona. Borussia’s left-back Luca Netz and Jordan Beyer, currently on loan at Burnley, both began on the bench. Beyer came on in the 60th minute. Germany were 3-0 up by that point through goals from Denis Huseinbasic (23’), Lazar Samardzic (52’) and Kevin Schade (56’), but Italy fought back to make it 3-2. Netz was then brought on with 15 minutes to play. The hosts were shown a red card late on and a penalty from Maurice Malone settled the game to give Germany U21s a win in their final match of the year.

FRANCE U21s

France U21s and Manu Koné also played their final fixture of 2022 on Saturday. They drew 1-1 against Norway in Caen, with Koné starting the match and playing 69 minutes. His team were ahead when he went off after Amine Adli’s goal (17’), set up by Borussia’s midfielder himself. A late goal from a counter-attack earned Norway a draw.

Embolo out of action until further notice

The Foals will be without Breel Embolo until further notice after the 24-year-old sustained a muscle injury during Switzerland’s EURO quarterfinal against Spain.
