Thuram reaches World Cup semi final with France

Marcus Thuram was an unused substitute as France reached the last four of the World Cup with a 2-1 win over England in the quarter final.

Aurélien Tchouaméni scored the only goal of the first half in the 17th minute to give his side a half-time lead. Harry Kane equalised from the penalty spot (54’), before Olivier Giroud restored the French advantage (78’). Kane had a chance to level the scores with another penalty in the 84th minute but put his effort over the bar.

Marcus Thuram (photo: imago images / Klein) watched on from the sidelines as an unused substitute for the second time in the tournament. The Borussia striker had previously been brought on in the group stage wins over Australia (4-1) and Denmark (2-1), as well as the last 16 win over Poland (3-1). France will play Morocco in the semi final on Wednesday at 20:00 CET.
