“Proud to have been able to experience that” - legends talk about brilliant event

Raffael, Juan Arango, Vaclav Sverkos, Roel Brouwers and many other former Borussia players were invited to the event “the Legends of the park”. All had a brilliant time at BORUSSIA PARK, with plenty of joy at seeing each other again.

The mixed zone at BORUSSIA PARK is normally a place with two sides, a winner, in a good mood and happy to talk, and on the other side the disappointed and reticent winner. On Saturday evening at 21:00 CET, it was a different story. Although an eleven of the Foals’ current players won the game 12-3, the scenes in the dressing room after were shaped by warm hugs, glowing eyes, and a cold beverage or two here and there.

“It was really fun,” said Gladbach legend Igor Demo, with Mike Hanke adding with a wink: “We will definitely win the third half.” It was an atmospheric and friendly event, with many former Borussia players making their way back to Mönchengladbach.

Farke: “You become aware of how big this club is”

The first group of players, including Juan Arango and Federico Insua, arrived at BORUSSIA PARK on Friday, with 30 more VfL legends from all over the world coming on Saturday morning for a team meeting in the dressing room before kitting up. “It’s a brilliant feeling to be at BORUSSIA PARK again and to see so many old friends,” explained Igor de Camargo, with Marcell Jansen adding, “It’s crazy all the players who have come for this, I think it is absolutely class that Borussia organised this event. This is what makes a big club.”

The legends went out onto the pitch at BORUSSIA PARK having fulfilled plenty of requests for autographs and selfies on the specially rolled out “green carpet”. Waiting for them was 25,000 fans and Daniel Farke’s sode. “It was a brilliant evening for us and the fans, who saw a lot of goals,” said Vaclav Sverkos. However, the final result was just a sidenote in the aftermath. “When you widen your view, you become aware on a day like this how big this club is, the emotions that it triggers and the enormous tradition that stands behind it,” said an impressed Farke. “You get a bit emotional and are really just thankful to be allowed to take on a position of responsibility at such a fantastic club.”

Raffael: It is always fun with these fans

Two legends who had recently departed BORUSSIA PARK also enjoyed their return. “It was a super atmosphere. It is always fun with these fans,” said Borussia’s former midfielder maestro Raffael, who like Juan Arango, showed once again that he still has magic in his boots. “The quality of Juan’s left foot is still there. He has not lost that,” said Ibrahima Traore. “It was great to see old mates and to be on the pitch again with a few legends.”

Legends like Roel Brouwers for example, who the fans celebrated with a long “Roooooeeeeel” after every successful act in defence. “It makes me proud to have been able to experience that and to have a beautiful celebration with the fans,” explained the dutchman on his way to the next part of the evening, which, like Hanke, he also saw the legends as best prepared: "We win the third half more often," laughed Brouwers looking forward to a successful evening.
