Borussia lose final friendly 1-0 to St. Pauli

The Foals were beaten 1-0 at BORUSSIA-PARK by FC St. Pauli in their final game before the Bundesliga returns next week.

5,572 supporters were in attendance at BORUSSIA-PARK for the game against FC St. Pauli. Despite Borussia having more of the ball, it was the visitors who had the better chances in the first half and they took one of them to go ahead. Even with more opportunities after the break, the Foals failed to find an equaliser, with Manu Koné having a goal ruled out for offside.

TEAM NEWS

Head coach Daniel Farke went with Yann Sommer in goal and a defence of Joe Scally, Ko Itakura, Nico Elvedi and Ramy Bensebaini. Julian Weigl partnered Manu Koné in the centre of midfield, with Jonas Hofmann, Christoph Kramer and Alassane Plea in front of them. Marcus Thuram started as the lone striker.

The only absentee was Yvandro Borges Sanches (hip injury).

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS:

21’:  The first big chance for the opponents. Daschner shoots in the area, but Sommer reacts brilliantly to save the shot with his legs. The rebound effort goes well over.

24’: A cross comes in from the left and Otto backheels it into the far corner. 1-0.

34’: Thuram gets in down the left and cuts into the box. A Pauli defender gets back and manages to clear it for a corner.

38’: Paqarada meets a corner on the volley from the edge of the box, Sommer gets down to save it well.

SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS:

50’: The first chance of the second half belongs to the Foals. A ricochet of Saliakas in his own box falls to Plea, who strikes it from a tight angle. His effort hits the outside of the post.

64’: Stindl’s shot from outside the area is only parried by Vasilj. Koné mops up the rebound, but the flag goes up for offside.

90’+2: Herrmann slips in fellow substitute Ngoumou. His touch takes him slightly too wide and in the end his shot is easily saved by the Pauli goalkeeper.
