Foals begin new training week with almost full contingent

Almost all of the Foals were on board on Tuesday as preparations for the home game against FC Schalke 04 on Saturday evening began.

There was a rare sight for the 50 or so fans that had come to watch Borussia start a new week of training in the chilly and wet conditions in Mönchengladbach – with only Oscar Fraulo working individually due to a cold, head coach Daniel Farke had more or less his entire squad out on the pitch for a training session. “It’s been a good while since we had everyone on board. It’s great news for us, not only because it has a positive effect on the work we do in training, but it also means that we have more options available to us,” said Farke.

The mood during the 90-minute training session was certainly positive following this season’s first Bundesliga away win at Hoffenheim on the weekend. “I’m happy that we’ve put this supposed away curse behind us with a very convincing performance,” added the boss. A very different match awaits the Foals this weekend, with their opposition last-placed FC Schalke 04. “The lads are experienced enough to know that there aren’t any easy games in the Bundesliga. Schalke have not given up by a long shot, so we have to prepare for the game with the right amount of focus,” said Farke.

Today was the first of five training sessions on the road to Saturday’s match. There are public sessions at 10:45 CET on both Wednesday and Thursday, as well as an additional workout in the Performance Center on Wednesday. Friday’s final training will be held behind closed doors.

Daniel Farke may well have a full squad to choose from come Saturday's meeting with Schalke
