Ibrahim Digberekou signs professional contract at Borussia

The 18-year-old Belgium youth international player Ibrahim Digberekou has received his first professional contract at Borussia.

“We are very pleased that Ibo has decided to continue his journey with us and commit to Borussia for the long term despite lots of other offers,” said Mirko Sandmöller, director of the youth academy, adding: “Ibo is a great guy and has amazing qualities as a central defender, especially in tackling. Now it’s up to both us and him to further develop those qualities to prepare him for more demanding football.”

The 6’2” centre-back, currently living at the FohlenStall, moved to Borussia from Alemannia Aachen in 2015 at 10 years old and has since passed through all of the Foals’ youth teams. Last season, Digberekou played 15 Bundesliga games (2 goals) and one cup game for Borussia’s U17s. This season for the U19s, he has played in 12 Bundesliga matches and four games in the DFB’s one-off tournament. The defender has also already made 13 international appearances for the Belgium national youth sides (3x U15, 5x U17, 5x U18).

“I first started playing for Borussia in the U11 side. It is definitely my dream to become a professional here. I now need to continue working hard on my game to be able to achieve my main aim in the future,” said Digberekou.
