Borussia sign Robin Hack from Arminia Bielefeld

Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed attacker Robin Hack from Arminia Bielefeld. The 24-year-old has signed a contract with the Foals until 30th June 2027.

“Robin Hack is a dynamic attacker who provides a goal-threat and already has plenty of first and second division experience,” said managing director for sport Roland Virkus. “His personal development in the past few years has been good and we see a lot of potential in him. We are pleased that he has decided to join Borussia.”

The winger began his career at 1. FC Calmbach before joining TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s academy via Karlsruher SC in 2012. Hack was already playing for TSG’s U17s in the 2013/14 season, playing 22 games in the U17 Bundesliga South/Southwest, scoring 15 times. In the following season, he played 25 games in the same league, scoring ten times and registering a further 15 assists. Due to a double leg break, the attacker only made three appearances in the 2015/16 season in the U19 Bundesliga South/Southwest, he did however score twice. Hack also appeared in the final of the U19 German Championship. In his second season at U19 level, Hack scored 15 times in 21 U19 Bundesliga games.

Hack made the step up to senior football ahead of the 2017/18 season, making 17 Regionalliga Southwest appearances, scoring three times. He also celebrated his professional debut for Hoffenheim that season. On Bundesliga matchday 7, he started for TSG away against SC Freiburg. He also marked the occasion with his first Bundesliga goal. At the end of the season, Hack had made three Bundesliga appearances (1 goal) as well as one appearance in both the UEFA Europa League and DFB-Pokal. After a further season in Hoffenheim, where he made nine Regionalliga appearances (1 goal) as well as one appearance in the UEFA Champions League, he joined 1. FC Nürnberg for the 2019/20 season, playing 59 competitive games over the following two seasons (2. Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga relegation play-off and DFB-Pokal), scoring 14 goals.

Hack joined DSC Arminia Bielefeld in the summer of 2021, immediately becoming a permanent fixture in the side. Having made 30 Bundesliga appearances in his first season in Bielefeld as well as one DFB-Pokal appearance, he was relegated alongside the club to the second division, where he subsequently made 33 appearances, scoring ten times. He appeared in both relegation play-offs against SV Wehen Wiesbaden this season, but couldn’t prevent Bielefeld slipping into the 3. Liga. He also played in two DFB-Pokal games this season, scoring once.

The right-footer also played on the international stage for Germany throughout his youth career, having made a total of 25 appearances for his country from the U16s through to the U20s, scoring six times. He also won the U20 Elite League in 2018 with Germany U20s. Hack then made five appearances for the U21s, scoring three goals.

Robin Hack will line up for the Foals for the 2023/24 season.
