Jonas Omlin announced as new captain

Jonas Omlin will be captain in the upcoming season, with Julian Weigl and Florian Neuhaus as his deputies.

Goalkeeper Jonas Omlin will captain the team in the upcoming season. Coach Gerardo Seoane has named Julian Weigl and Florian Neuhaus as the Swiss player’s deputies. “It’s important that we have experienced players who want to and are capable of taking responsibility for the team and the club as a whole”, said Seoane. The team council is comprised of Tony Jantschke, Christoph Kramer, Alassane Plea and Ko Itakura. Omlin transferred to Borussia from HSC Montpellier in January. “Jonas proved right off the bat that he possesses remarkable leadership qualities”, Seoane remarked.

Omlin commented: “It’s a total honour for me to take over this position. I’m so grateful and can’t wait to begin my new role. It’s undeniable, however, that such a responsibility cannot be assumed alone. That’s why I’m thankful to have experienced and strong leaders in Jule and Flo by my side, as well as the four members of the team council.” Borussia’s number 1 will officially captain the side for the first time in tomorrow's friendly against his former club Montpellier at 15:30 CEST.
