Euro qualifying: Borges Sanches and Ranos go home empty-handed

Borussia players Yvandro Borges Sanches (Luxembourg) and Grant-Leon Ranos (Armenia) both suffered defeats in European Championship qualification on Monday.

Luxembourg

Yvandro Borges Sanches (photo: imago images / Schmit), who played the full 90 minutes, and Borussia U19 goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso, who sat on the bench, suffered a heavy defeat in their sixth Euro qualification game with Luxembourg. The visitors were hammered 9-0 in Portugal, with Goncalo Inacio (12’, 45+4’), Goncalo Ramos (18’, 34’), Diogo Jota (57’, 77’), Ricardo Horta (67’), Bruno Fernandes (83’) and Joao Felix (88’) all finding the back of the net for the Group J leaders. Luxembourg sit third with ten points behind Slovakia (13).

Armenia

Grant-Leon Ranos’ Armenia team put up a great fight against 2022 World Cup third-placed side Croatia, but in the end suffered a narrow 1-0 loss. The Borussia attacker was again included in the starting line-up and played 68 minutes. Andrej Kramaric scored the winning goal in the 13th minute. After five matches, Armenia sit third in Group D with seven points, behind second-placed Turkey (10).

Germany U20

After having made a brief debut in the 1-1 draw against Italy, Lukas Ullrich earned his first start for the German U20 side during their 1-1 friendly stalemate in Poland.
