Jordan: “I’m a team player”

Jordan Siebatcheu talks to us about his first weeks at Borussia, his playing style and the upcoming game against RB Leipzig.

Jordan, you’ve been a Borussia player for about three weeks now. What are your first impressions of the club and how have you settled in?

Jordan: My first impressions of the club and of my new surroundings are totally positive. Although I didn’t know any of the lads well before joining, they’ve made it really easy for me to settle in and everybody has been really welcoming.

Why did you choose to make the move to Gladbach?

Jordan: After having played in the Bundesliga for a year, I already knew Borussia quite well and I’ve always been a fan of their playing style. On top of that, I know Gerardo Seoane from my time playing in Bern and I think I’ll quickly understand exactly what he wants from me on the pitch. That’s why a year-long loan was a great option for me.

The away match in Darmstadt was a real game of two halves. What’s your perspective on last weekend’s performance?

Jordan: We were too passive in the first half and we didn’t do enough with the ball, which made it easy for Darmstadt. At half time, the coach spoke to us about how we could turn the game on its head and we managed to up our intensity in the second half and claim a point.

You scored your first goal for the Foals in Darmstadt. How important is getting off the mark as quickly as possible for a striker?

Jordan: Opening your account for the season definitely boosts your confidence as a striker. I’m hoping to build on that goal now.

Gerardo Seoane mentioned that you played in a very different system at Union Berlin. How is your role here different?

Jordan: While we played lots of long balls and set up in a relatively low block at Union Berlin, here the coach wants me to get involved in the build-up play earlier on so that I can give the ball to our quick wingers.

How would you describe your own playing style and how do you try to help the team?

Jordan: I try to use my physicality and to contest every challenge. I always aim to help the team out; I’m a team player and I want to push my teammates.

What are your personal goals for this season at Borussia?

Jordan: I want to get a lot of game time, score goals and have fun. It’s also important for me that we play attractive football and are successful as a team.

What kind of game do you expect against RB Leipzig on Saturday? What do you think will be the deciding factor in the match?

Jordan: I think that it will be a tough 90 minutes against Leipzig; they’re a team that can be dangerous both in slower build-up play and on the counter through their pace. We have to concentrate for the whole game and be clinical with the chances that we get.
