#BOCBMG: Match reaction

We have the reactions of Max Wöber, Florian Neuhaus and both head coaches Thomas Letsch and Gerardo Seoane after the Foals’ 3-1 win in Bochum.

Max Wöber: We knew that it would be a hard-fought game today, and we were right to assume that. The team showed in the first half exactly the kind of football that we want to play. We can be pleased with that. In the first half, we’d already created enough chances to take the lead before the goal went in due to our good switches of play, and we could have had three or four goals. I think we’ve worked well on our mistakes and showed today that when we do the basics right, we can also play good football.

Florian Neuhaus: We can be very pleased with the three points that we’ve got away from home today. I think we implemented our tactical plan really well. We knew that the space would open up if we played through the lines and we did exactly that on the pitch. Jordan held up the ball really well and so we could use the space and create chances.

Managing director for sport Roland Virkus: It was an outstanding first half and a well-deserved win. We were clearly the better team in footballing terms and it’s great to see what this side have about them. In both halves, we missed a few chances to put the game to bed, but it was still a top performance. In Bochum, you always have to have the mindset and be up for the fight. The defence managed to stop nearly everything today, and in attack we were incredibly versatile with Jordan, who held up the ball well, and Alassane Plea and Florian Neuhaus, who could operate in the space with their superb technique.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: From the start, we were ready to impose our energy and strength in individual battles on Bochum. We won a lot of individual battles and second balls. The result in the first half was absolutely perfect, because we found the space well and then played the ball forwards quickly – we created a lot of chances like that. In the end, we deserved the win, even though we were a little too passive in the second half. It’s okay that we conceded a goal, but there were lots of chances and attacks in the penalty area for Bochum afterwards. We’ll have to keep our concentration for longer in future.

Thomas Letsch (VfL Bochum): What we offered today was catastrophic. There’s nothing good to say about it. We didn’t show what we’re made of on the pitch at all. The opponents were a different class to us in our own stadium. We didn’t win the decisive individual battles and when we had the ball, we made many wrong decisions. We actually have to be thankful that we only went in 3-0 down at half time. We absolutely deserved to lose. We definitely have to ask ourselves a lot of questions and be very critical. That wasn’t a reaction to the Bayern game, but the opposite.
