Searching for Borussia’s Player of the Month for September

Moritz Nicolas, Florian Neuhaus, Rocco Reitz and Alassane Plea are the nominees for September’s Player of the Month award, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Fans can vote for their winner on the FohlenApp.

Who will be Borussia’s Player of the Month for September? The month started with a 2-1 defeat to FC Bayern, before the Foals came from 3-0 down to earn a 3-3 draw at SV Darmstadt 98. After a 1-0 loss at home to RB Leipzig, Gerardo Seoane got his first win in charge at the end of the month, a 3-1 victory at VfL Bochum.

A different Borussia player was voted as Man of the Match in all four games. Moritz Nicolas put in a fine performance in goal against Bayern, Florian Neuhaus was part of the comeback with his goal in Darmstadt, Rocco Reitz impressed the fans with his committed display against Leipzig and Alassane Plea was involved in three goals away to Bochum.

Voting is open now and closes on Thursday at 23:59 CEST on the FohlenApp.

Moritz Nicolas: The goalkeeper has been on the books at Borussia since 2016, but had to wait until this season to make his Bundesliga debut for the club after several loan spells. His first game wasn’t just any old match either; the reigning champions FC Bayern were in town with their star striker Harry Kane. Nicolas made a number of great saves in the first half and showed off his quick reactions to prevent Leroy Sané from equalising. Overall, the Bavarians took 25 shots and only beat Nicolas with two of them, leaving him without a chance for both goals. Nicolas has gone on to prove what an excellent understudy he is in the absence of captain Jonas Omlin.

Florian Neuhaus: Coach Seoane made four changes at the break after a poor first half in Darmstadt. One of the players he introduced to the game was Neuhaus and he had a real impact on the second half. The midfielder completed 93% of his passes and rejuvenated the Foals’ attack. The German made it 3-2 as Borussia went on to get an equaliser. The 26-year-old then scored his second goal of the season in Bochum, breaking the deadlock early on.

Rocco Reitz: The young central midfielder has gone from strength to strength under Seoane, featuring in all six league games this season and starting each of the last four. The academy product is quickly becoming a favourite among the fans thanks to his commitment, passion and desire. His best performance to date came in the home game against RB Leipzig, which saw him keep Leipzig’s summer signing Xavi Simons quiet for large parts of the game.

Alassane Plea: With two goals and an assist, it was no great surprise that Plea was Borussia’s Man of the Match in the 3-1 win over Bochum. The French attacker was involved in almost all of the Foals’ dangerous attacks, firstly setting up Florian Neuhaus’ opening goal. He scored himself from a corner, his 50th goal in all competitions for the club. Plea then added another goal just before half time, putting his side into a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.
