Match facts ahead of #KOEBMG

Everything you need to know before the Foals take on 1.FC Köln this Sunday (15:30 CEST).

Spectators

  • The RheinEnergieStadion (capacity: 50,000) is sold out ahead of Sunday’s Rhine Derby. Around 4,800 Borussia fans are expected to make the trip to support the Foals.

Head-to-head record

  • Gladbach and Köln will face off for the 97th time in the Bundesliga. The record is clearly in the former’s favour, with the Foals having won 52 clashes to Köln’s 27. 17 encounters have ended in a draw.
  • The Foals have won more top-flight games against Köln than against any other team in the time that they’ve been in the Bundesliga. They’ve also scored the most goals against the Billy Goats with 188. Köln haven’t suffered as many defeats against any other team as they have against Borussia.
  • That being said, Köln have only lost one of the last five derbies against Gladbach, winning three and drawing once. The teams couldn’t be separated in the most recent meeting in the second half of last season, as it finished 0-0 in Cologne.
  • Only five players have ever been sent off in the 96 previous Rhine derbies, but none of them have been Gladbach players!

Statistics

  • Franck Honorat already has two assists from set pieces this season. The 27 chances he’s created is a league high. The Foals have had 110 attempts altogether this campaign and only two other teams can boast a higher total.
  • Gladbach are one of five Bundesliga teams who are unbeaten away from home this season and have picked up five of their six points on the road.
  • Köln have fallen to four consecutive Bundesliga defeats for the first time under head coach Steffen Baumgart. They find themselves bottom of the league for the first time since December 2019.
  • Borussia haven’t lost any of their last ten Bundesliga games against sides sitting bottom of the table (W8 and D2 this season). They last lost against the bottom-placed side in January 2018 – falling to a 2-1 defeat against Köln on that occasion.
  • FC Köln have only got one point from their first seven games – they have never had fewer points on the board at this stage of the season in their lengthy Bundesliga history.

Officials:

  • The officials for the game will be announced by the DFB at a later time.
