#BMGWOB: Match reaction

After the Foals’ 4-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg, we have the reactions of Rocco Reitz, Tomáš Čvančara, sporting director Nils Schmadtke and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Niko Kovac.

Tomáš Čvančara: I’ve recently had a few games that weren’t good enough. Today, I got the chance to play from the start again and I’m very happy about the performance of the team and also myself – the goal was very important for me personally. I hope I can build on this performance in the next few weeks and prove that I belong on the pitch. Before the goal, I saw Franck’s brilliant move in behind the defence and waited in the middle for the ball-in. The pass came perfectly and it was easy for me to convert it. The win is extremely good for us, especially because we’re now going into the international break off the back of a four-match unbeaten run. We took a huge step forwards today. We have to build on that in the coming games.

Rocco Reitz: I always dreamed of scoring my first goal here at BORUSSIA-PARK. It was even better in real life than in my imagination. It was unbelievable and hard to sum it up in words. I’m very happy that I could help the team with it today. Except for the first ten minutes after half time, I’m also very happy with the way we played. We did everything really well and can be very pleased with our performance. In terms of my goal, I’d guessed that Casteels would play that pass. Lasso then got his body in the way really well so I had free rein.

Sporting director Nils Schmadtke: The lads pulled it off today – both in attack and defence. We were rewarded in attack and kept a clean sheet in defence. The match went perfectly for us at a lot of points today. We scored the goals at exactly the right moment every time. It was a big improvement compared to the Freiburg game. Wolfsburg came out well after the break and put pressure on us. That made it all the better that we held out and kept playing forwards. Overall, a very good performance from the team. It’s good that we could keep our run going. You could see the hunger in the eyes of the players before the game and sense that everyone really wanted to get the win. Today, the whole team won the game. The boys in the starting eleven, the lads who came on and the other players on the bench.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: I have to compliment my team for this complete performance. They worked well as a unit, did a lot of running and had a good grip on the game. The margin of victory is maybe a little too high, but this time we scored at all the right moments. We always managed to get a new injection of energy at the points when it could have become difficult for us. The course of the match was therefore very much in our favour, but it was also a very good performance from the team. It was a wonderful evening overall. I’m very pleased for the players, but also for the fans who’ve seen some difficult home games this season.

Head coach Niko Kovac (VfL Wolfsburg): We started the match really well. But then something happened to us that’s been happening more and more in the last few weeks: we’re making mistakes that are immediately getting punished. At the end of the day, the number of mistakes is reflected by the result. We also deserved to lose by this margin. If you make this many mistakes, you’re not going to win a Bundesliga game.
