#BMGSVW: Match reaction

After the 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen, we have the reactions of Rocco Reitz, Robin Hack, Borussia’s managing director for sport Roland Virkus and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Ole Werner.

Robin Hack: I’m going home with mixed feelings. We started the game badly and were all over the place, but after conceding the early goal we fought back brilliantly. The last 20, 25 minutes of the first half were very good and we made it 1-1. In the second half, we had one or two good chances after going 2-1 up and then conceded a very unlucky goal for 2-2. After that, we threw everything at it again, including going forwards with attack-minded substitutions. You could tell that we wanted it. We would have liked to hold onto the three points, but in the end 2-2 was a fair result.

Rocco Reitz: The result is a bit disappointing, because we wanted to win the game. I do think though that both teams will be able to live with the draw. Both had their chances. We could have been a bit more composed up front and we should have been more alert defensively. Of course I’m pleased about my goals, but I’d rather not have scored them if it had meant we’d have won the game without them. Just before the second goal, I thought Robin was going to go alone. It’s great that he saw me and played me the ball. I’ve thanked him for that. Then, it wasn’t that hard to put it in the net. The goal though is mostly all about Robin. We’ll use the next few days to recover. On Wednesday, we’ll be able to give our all again, because we have a few days off in between. However, it’s never easy away in Frankfurt and we’ll need to be at 100 percent.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: We’re disappointed with the result because we led 2-1 for a long time. We’ll have to work on the performance, because some things didn’t come off. Not everything happened the way we wanted. We failed to plug some gaps. It looked to me as if it was a misunderstanding and a misreading of the situation for the second Werder goal. Football is a sport of mistakes. We don’t have a lot of time before the away game in Frankfurt, both in terms of physical recovery and tactical development. We’ll try though to analyse the opponent as much as we can and prepare for the game as well as possible.

Managing director for sport Roland Virkus: A draw was a fair result. Bremen started the game the better and exploited the space, and we couldn’t get into a rhythm. After the first goal, we fought our way back into the game and scored the equaliser. We were then much better after half time, scored a great team goal to make it 2-1 and then we strangely lost control of the game again. The game was like our season, with ups and downs. We have to work hard for every point. I can’t say if I’m happy or unhappy. I have mixed feelings.

Head coach Ole Werner (Werder Bremen): We started the game well, not only with the goal. We had a lot of control in the game as a whole. We did well in the first phases of the game, but then we kind of fell asleep a bit and let Gladbach back into it, although we still had  a great chance to make it 2-0 through Leonardo Bittencourt. In the second part of the first half, Gladbach were clearly piling on the pressure and in the second half, it was kind of the other way round again. Overall, it was an even game, in which both teams wanted to play good football.
