Match facts ahead of #BMGFCA

Everything you need to know ahead of the Foals’ home game against FC Augsburg on Sunday (17:30 CET).

Head-to-head record

  • Borussia and FC Ausgburg are set to face off against each other for the 26th time in the Bundesliga. The head-to-record is currently even. The Foals and FC Augsburg have both won eight games, whilst there have been nine draws.
  • The return fixture between the two clubs was spectacular, with Augsburg recovering from going 2-0 and 3-1 down, before going into additional time with a 4-3 lead. In the end, Augsburg and the Foals’ couldn’t be separated, with the game ending 4-4.
  • It was the first time in Bundesliga history that there has been a 4-4 draw on matchday 1, whilst there have never previously been more goals in a game on matchday 1.
  • Eight goals were scored in the clash between the two sides in the first of the season, with no Bundesliga game having had more goals scored this season. The only other game in which eight goals were scored was Bayern against Darmstadt (8-0 win for Bayern). It was already 3-3 at half-time in Augsburg, whilst there hasn’t been another game with six goals scored in the first half in 2023/24.
  • Borussia are on a good home run against FC Augsburg: They are unbeaten in eight home games against the Fuggerstädter (6 wins, 2 draws). It seems like a good opportunity for Borussia to secure two consecutive Bundesliga wins. The last time they managed this was in mid-2022 (across two seasons), whilst the last time in a single season was in March 2022.

Statistics

  • Borussia ran out 3-1 winners against third-placed Stuttgart on matchday 17. Consequently, the Foals are unbeaten in eight competitive games at home (6 wins, 2 draws) – that’s their longest run in over three years. On that occasion, they went ten home games without defeat across two seasons.
  • Only Heidenheim (12) have scored more goals from set-pieces in the Bundesliga than Mönchengladbach this season.
  • Borussia’s eight goals from corners are the most in the league.
  • The Fuggerstädter have conceded twelve goals from set-pieces, with five of those coming from corners – no team have conceded more. In the return fixture against FCA, Borussia scored once from a corner and once from the penalty spot.
  • FC Augsburg ended the first half of the season with 18 points. The Fuggerstädter had exactly the same number of points at this stage in the last two seasons. FCA had only a one point and two point gap to the bottom two on those occasions, but they are seven points clear of 16th and 17th this season.
  • Augsburg have only picked up one point from their last four Bundesliga games.
  • Their record under head coach Jess Thorup is evenly balanced (3 wins, 4 draws, 3 losses). FCA haven’t yet gone five consecutive games without a win in the Bundesliga this season, whilst three defeats in a row would also be a first this season.

Officials

  • Martin Petersen will referee the game, whilst his assistants will be Alexander Sather and Robert Wessel. Michael Bacher will be the fourth official, whilst the Video Assistant Referees are Guido Winkmann (VAR) and Marco Achmüller (VAR assistant).
