Eleven Borussia players called up to national teams

A total of ten of Borussia’s first-team players will be in action for their respective national sides in the first international break of the year over the next two weeks. One other is on standby.

Austria

Stefan Lainer (photo: imago images / Christian Ort) and Maximilian Wöber have been named in the Austria squad for the friendlies against Slovakia on Saturday, 23rd March and Turkey on Tuesday, 26th March. Stevie Lainer, who last featured for his country in September 2022, has returned to the national squad for the first time since recovering from cancer.

Switzerland

Nico Elvedi has been included in head coach Murat Yakin’s Switzerland squad. The ‘Nati’ will firstly travel to Denmark on Saturday, 23rd March, before facing Ireland on Tuesday, 26th March.

Armenia

Grant-Leon Ranos’ Armenia side will also play two friendly matches. They will take on Kosovo on Friday, 22nd March, before travelling to Czechia on Tuesday, 26th March.

USA

Joe Scally has been named in the USA national squad. Head coach Gregg Berhalter’s side face Jamaica in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League on the night of Thursday, 21st March/Friday, 22nd March. If they win, the USA will take on the winner of the game between Panama and Mexico in the final on the night of Sunday, 24th March/Monday, 25th March.

Japan

Ko Itakura is in the Japan squad for the two forthcoming World Cup qualifying games against North Korea on Thursday, 21st March and Tuesday, 26th March.

France U23

France U23s have two friendly matches to play. Manu Koné has been named in their squad. They firstly welcome Ivory Coast on Friday, 22nd March, before hosting the USA on Monday, 25th March.

Germany U21

Luca Netz and Rocco Reitz have been called up by Germany U21s. Head coach Antonio di Salvo’s side will play two EURO qualifying games, hosting Kosovo on Friday, 22nd March and Israel on Tuesday, 26th March.
