Borges Sanches suffers cruciate ligament tear in right knee

Yvandro Borges Sanches has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee while on loan at Dutch first-division side NEC Nijmegen.

Borges Sanches suffered the injury during a 1-1 draw against Fortuna Sittard on Tuesday. The 19-year-old Luxembourg international will now return to Mönchengladbach to plan his treatment. "It's a bitter setback for Yvandro. We wish him all the best for a full recovery and will provide him with all the support he needs as he works towards his comeback," said Roland Virkus, Borussia's managing director for sport.

The attacker joined the Borussia academy in summer 2020 from Racing FC Union Luxembourg. He appeared for the club's U17s, U19s and U23s before breaking into the first-team squad. Borges Sanches made his competitive debut for the Foals on 31st July 2022 in a 9-1 win against SV Oberachern in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The Luxembourg international has since made a total of eight appearances for Gladbach in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, in 2022/23 and in the first half of the 2023/24 season. Borges Sanches moved to NEC Nijmegen on loan for the second half of the ongoing campaign, making eight appearances in the league and three in the cup for the side.
