Lainer and Elvedi back on the training pitch

On Tuesday morning, Borussia kicked off their preparations for their Bundesliga game at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday (15:30 CEST). Although Stefan Lainer and Nico Elvedi were able to train with the team, eight other players were missing with illness or injury.

“We have a lot of uncertainty around the personnel for the weekend,” said head coach Gerardo Seoane at the start of the new week of training. There is a question mark over a number of Borussia players. The good news is that Stefan Lainer (twisted knee) and Nico Elvedi (knee tendon problem), both of whom suffered knocks in the Dortmund game, were able to train on the pitch together with their teammates in the first session. “It’s looking positive for both of them at the moment. We’ll have to keep an eye on them though and reduce their workload this week where possible,” said Seoane.

Franck Honorat (knee ligament strain) and Florian Neuhaus (Achilles tendon problems) each completed light individual sessions on Tuesday. “We’re trying to manage Flo’s workload over the next few days so to ease the pain and then hopefully have him available at the weekend. Franck will potentially be able to train with the ball again tomorrow. We’ll decide on Friday if he can play in Hoffenheim,” said Seoane.

Jordan (thigh strain) and Nathan Ngoumou (ankle ligament tear), both of whom were also injured in the Dortmund game, will each be out for longer. “Nathan’s is a bit less bad, but he’s still a significant doubt for the next two games,” said Seoane. Borussia are also missing Manu Koné (thigh strain), Grant-Leon Ranos (ankle injury), Tony Jantschke (adductor problems) and Christoph Kramer (illness). Julian Weigl missed the session on Tuesday due to personal reasons.

On Wednesday, Seoane’s side will begin training at 11:00 CEST. Spectators will be welcome at this session, as well as at the talent training at 15:00 CEST. The two final sessions before the Hoffenheim game on Thursday and Friday (both 11:00 CEST) will take place behind closed doors.

Nico Elvedi was able to train with the team on Tuesday, as was Stefan Lainer.
