#BMGFCU: Match reaction

After the Foals’ 0-0 draw with Union Berlin, we have the reactions of Marvin Friedrich, Fabio Chiarodia and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Nenad Bjelica.

Fabio Chiarodia: It’s always a good thing for a defender to keep a clean sheet. We wanted to win the game though, and we’re disappointed that we couldn’t do that. I think I put in an okay performance on my first Bundesliga start for Borussia. Of course there’s room to improve as always. You can always perform better no matter how well you played.

Marvin Friedrich: In the first half, we didn’t concede many chances. It was an even game over the 90 minutes, and Union put in a lot of crosses, especially in the closing stages. That was hard to defend against. If we’d had a bit of luck at the end, we might have managed to find the winner. In the end though, it was a draw and we’ve got a point. Of course we wanted to win at home. Both sides are in a difficult situation at the moment. Everyone knows that. The fans gave us great support us and were always behind us. That drives us forward. Now we’ve got a tough task ahead of us in Bremen, but together and with the fans’ support, I think we’ll be ready.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: Of course we’re disappointed that we couldn’t take all three points at home against the team directly below us. In the second half, similar to in the first, we didn’t manage to exploit the space and put our opponents under the cosh. I think you could tell that the team conceded four goals and lost in the 94th minute last week. I think that the result then and the situation as a whole affected the team’s mentality in this game. They were more reactive than active, mostly played the safe passes, and went into fewer individual battles. We were just missing a bit of bravery overall. We need to discuss that during the week in order to show more confidence in our own ability in the next game in Bremen.

Head coach Nenad Bjelica (Union Berlin): It was an even game in the first half, and neither team dominated. We were slightly better in the second half and had the better chances. We could have won the game, but were missing that end product again. That’s why we’re only taking a point home. I’m pleased with the team’s performance but not the result.
