Training without seven players on international duty

The Foals took to the training pitch on Tuesday to prepare for this Saturday’s home game against VfL Wolfsburg with seven players still away on international duty. László Bénes returned to full team training after his long period on the sidelines with injury.

With a total of 19 players (16 outfield and 3 goalkeepers), the Foals began training on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the return of the Bundesliga on Saturday, when Wolfsburg will the guests at BORUSSIA-PARK (17th October, 20:30 CEST). The 70-minute session saw drills focusing on passing and finishing. The Borussia players had already completed a fitness session before lunch.

International players Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi (both Switzerland), Stefan Lainer (Austria) and Ramy Bensebaini (Algeria) will return tomorrow and the day after. Hannes Wolf (Austria U21s), Kaan Kurt (Germany U20s) and Famana Quizera (Portugal U20s) are already back in full training after finishing international duty, while László Bénes is also back after recovering from an ankle ligament injury. “Laci is on the right path,” said Gladbach head coach Marco Rose, “but he still hasn’t played any matches. He definitely needs a few more training sessions before he will be ready to go, but he is healthy.” Denis Zakaria completed part of team training while Valentino Lazaro (calf injury) trained alone on a nearby pitch. Andreas Poulsen (shoulder operation) and Jordan Beyer (positive coronavirus test) missed training.

Three training sessions remain ahead of the match against Wolfsburg this weekend. On Wednesday the Foals will train at 15:00 CEST. Thursday’s session will take place behind closed doors before a final session at 16:00 CEST on Friday.
