Late goals in 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg

Matchday 4 in the Bundesliga saw Borussia held to a 1-1 draw by VfL Wolfsburg. Jonas Hofmann put the Foals ahead from the penalty spot with just twelve minutes to play, but Wout Weghorst levelled the scores again shortly before full time.

It was something of a game of two halves in front of 300 spectators at BORUSSIA-PARK, albeit without either side ever really being on top. The Foals had the better chances in the first 45, with Florian Neuhaus heading a cross onto the post and Jonas Hofmann flashing a low shot just wide of the target. The momentum swung in the other direction after the change of ends. Yann Sommer had to make a handful of saves from the Wolves and also had Florian Neuhaus to thank for a last-ditch block against Josip Brekalo after a wayward pass from the Borussia no. 1. The deadlock was then finally broken as the game entered its final 15 minutes, somewhat against the run of play, when Marcus Thuram got to a poor back-pass ahead of Koen Casteels and won a penalty. Jonas Hofmann looked to have claimed all three points for Gladbach after converting from twelve yards, but a late lapse in concentration allowed Wout Weghorst to fire in an equaliser in the 85th minute to ensure the points were shared.

TEAM NEWS

Marco Rose made two changes to the side that won the derby against Köln before the international break, with Oscar Wendt and Breel Embolo coming into the side in place of Ramy Bensebaini and Alassane Plea, who was excused after becoming a father late on Friday night.

The boss was also without Denis Zakaria, Valentino Lazaro, László Bénes and Jordan Beyer, who are all working their way back to fitness, while Andreas Poulsen missed out with his shoulder injury.
