Wolf: “The seal is broken”

Hannes Wolf faced the media after the 1-0 win over RB Leipzig on matchday six of the Bundesliga. The goalscoring hero discussed…

…facing his parent club: Players always have that little extra motivation in matches like this. I had a tough time in Leipzig and I wanted to prove myself, and now I have managed to break the seal and score my first goal for my new club – while playing against Leipzig. It was a strange situation for me, but I feel really comfortable here at Borussia. Before the game, Marco Rose had told me that I should just relax, play, and try not to do too much. I still went into the game with the right attitude, though, and I had a good game. When I scored I was happy for my team, but I think that my celebrations were respectful enough towards Leipzig.

…what the match means: We had high expectations of ourselves against Leipzig. We have played really well in recent weeks without being rewarded with positive results. Towards the end, RB put us under pressure but weren’t able to create any clear-cut chances. We defended well in the last few minutes – we showed the right desire to see the game out to the final whistle and win 1-0. Now we have two more difficult matches before the next international break. Beating Leipzig gives us some positive energy and we will take that into the games against Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayer Leverkusen.

…a first win for Borussia over RB Leipzig: I knew that Gladbach have found it hard against Leipzig recently. We wanted to change that, and we managed to do it.

…his relationship with head coach Marco Rose: I have a really good, open and long-standing relationship with Marco Rose. He has known me since I was 14 or 15 and we’ve been through a lot together. I think its fate that we are now back working together at the same club. It was definitely one of the reasons why I chose to take this step and join Borussia.
