Elvedi: “Ready and aggressive from the beginning”

After the 4-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, Nico Elvedi spoke about his goal, the Champions League standings and the upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Schalke.

Nico Elvedi on…

… his opinion on the game: We can be very pleased with our performance. We were ready and aggressive from the beginning. We didn’t allow Shakhtar any space and only a few chances. On top of that, we scored the goals. I think that all in all, 4-0 is the right result.

… his goal: Lars Stindl delivered a great corner, I attacked it and made good contact with the ball. I’m pleased to have scored my first Champions League goal.

… how the group is looking: To be top of the group is great, but at this moment in time we haven’t achieved anything yet. We have two very difficult games ahead of us, in which we want to pick up points. However, if we can perform against Real Madrid and Inter the same way we did against Shakhtar, I’m confident of our chances. If we do that, we can look forward to more European games after winter.

… the clean sheet: Not conceding was very important. As a defender you never enjoy conceding goals, but keeping a clean sheet gives you more confidence, which we can build on.

… the togetherness of the team: It is noticeable that we’re playing together for the second season. One of our strengths is how we stick together and push each other. That’s why we were all equally as pleased as Breel for his first goal of the season.

… the upcoming home game against Schalke: The game against Shakhtar was another confidence booster. On Saturday, we want to bring the same performance. Therefore, I’m confident that we can pick up another three points in that game too.
