Tony Jantschke extends his contract with Borussia

The Foals and Tony Jantschke’s long journey together will continue beyond the end of this season, with Borussia’s longest serving player signing a new contract with the club.

Borussia have agreed a two-year contract extension with defender Tony Jantschke, which also includes an agreement for the 30-year-old to take up a role at the club after his retirement from professional football. “Tony personifies professionalism and reliability and is an important pillar in our team,” said Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl. “We’re very happy that he also sees his career beyond playing football at Borussia Mönchengladbach and that he’ll be able to apply his experience from his many years with us as a youth and first-team player.”

“Borussia has long become my second home and I’m very proud to have been able to play for this club for more that 14 years,” said Tony Jantschke. “It’s an honour that the club want to keep me on after my playing career and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future brings. For now though, I want to keep working hard for at least another two years as a Borussia player.”

Jantschke joined the FohlenStall as a 16-year-old from FV Dresden-Nord in 2006 and worked his way through the Borussia youth system. He made his first-team debut in November 2008 in a Bundesliga game against Energie Cottbus. Jantschke has gone on to make 280 competitive appearances for the Foals (5 goals) – 227 in the Bundesliga, two in the relegation play-offs, 32 in Europe and 19 in the DFB-Pokal. The 30-year-old is currently 22nd in the all-time appearance holder charts behind Uwe Rahn (283 competitive appearances), Michael Frontzeck (286) and Oscar Wendt (290), but he is the longest serving player in the current squad.
