Foals set off for Budapest

The Borussia squad began their journey to Budapest on Tuesday afternoon, with Wednesday evening’s (21:00 CET) UEFA Champions League last-sixteen tie against Manchester City to take place at the Puskás Aréna.

For the first time in the club’s history, Borussia are in the UEFA Champions League last sixteen, where they will face Manchester City. “Taking part in the last sixteen is a great thing for this club. It’s a great achievement to be among the best sixteen teams in Europe,” said head coach Marco Rose. Full back Oscar Wendt added, “The anticipation ahead of the game is huge. We have the opportunity to go head-to-head with what is perhaps the best team in the world at the moment. This is the type of games we’re training for every day.” Due to the entry bans on individuals and teams from the United Kingdom into Germany because of the coronavirus pandemic, the game against the English Premier League leaders cannot take place at BORUSSIA-PARK. Instead, the Foals will take on the Citizens tomorrow evening (21:00 CET) at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

At the Puskás Aréna for the first time on Tuesday evening

Therefore, the Foals will depart from Düsseldorf airport on plane at 15:00 CET as they make their way to the Hungarian capital. Playing and coaching staff will be joined on the plane by members of the club’s leadership. Not travelling to Budapest due to injury are Torben Müsel (rehabilitation training) and Famana Quizera (shoulder).

After arriving in Budapest, the first stop will be the team hotel. In the evening, the squad will visit the Puskás Aréna for the first time, just over 24 hours before they take on Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday evening.

Jonas Hofmann and Patrick Herrmann make their way onto the plane.
