• This will be the fourth meeting between the Foals and BVB in the history of the DFB-Pokal, with the record favouring the Foals. VfL have won both of the ties that have taken place in Mönchengladbach, first in the second round of the 1987 competition by a 6-1 scoreline, and then in another second-round clash in 2004 that finished 2-1 to the Foals. However, the most recent meeting between the sides was won by BVB in the second round of last season’s DFB-Pokal as Gladbach fell to a 2-1 defeat in Dortmund.
