Foals begin week of training without international players

Borussia’s first team started a new week of training on Tuesday with a smaller squad than normal, due to the players who have left on international duty.

“Even though some of the boys are away with their national teams, we want to continue to work hard together in training this week,” said head coach Marco Rose. Ten Foals are currently away on international duty. Matthias Ginter, Florian Neuhaus, and Jonas Hofmann have been called up for Germany, while Denis Zakaria, Breel Embolo, Yann Sommer, and Nico Elvedi are travelling to represent their native Switzerland. Stefan Lainer and Valentino Lazaro are on duty for Austria, with Ramy Bensebaini away representing Algeria.

Rocco Reitz, Jordan Beyer and Joe Scally took part in team training with the U23s, while youth keepers Jonas Kersken and Jan Olschowsky joined up with the first team. The 80-minute session consisted of a warm-up, a quick 5 vs 2 exercise, and a match on a smaller pitch.

The Foals will train again on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, before having the weekend off.
