EURO 2020: Four Borussia boys in provisional Switzerland squad

Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo have all been named in Switzerland’s provisional squad for the European championship.

EURO 2020 will begin in around three weeks’ time (11 June – 11 July). Four Foals are in with a good chance of featuring for Switzerland’s national team at the tournament. Head coach Vladimir Petkovic called up Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo to his 29-man squad, set to meet up on Wednesday, 26 May in Bad Ragaz to begin preparations.

By Tuesday, 1 June, Petkovic must cut three of the 29 players before submitting his final squad to UEFA. "All 29 players are in with a chance of realising their dream of taking part in the European championship. But we have to assess performance. Those currently in the best form will be the ones at the tournament in the end," said Petkovic.

Switzerland have two friendlies before the tournament gets underway: On Sunday, 30 May at 20:15 CEST against USA and then on Thursday, 3 June at 15:00 CEST against Liechtenstein. For Switzerland, the EUROS begin on Saturday, 12 June at 15:00 CEST with their first group game against Wales. Their other two group stage opponents are Italy (16 June, 21:00 CEST) and Turkey (20 June at 18:00 CEST).
