Grün signs for Viktoria Aschaffenburg

Max Grün, Gladbach’s third-choice goalkeeper for the past two seasons, will join Regionalliga outfift Viktoria Aschaffenburg for 2021/22.

Max Grün’s departure this summer was already announced, however his new club is now known. The 34-year-old goalkeeper has signed a two-year contract with Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the Regionalliga Bayern. He will also act as the U19s goalkeeper coach.

Grün joined Borussia in 2019 from SV Darmstadt, having previously played for SpVgg Greuther Fürth and VfL Wolfsburg, making 26 Bundesliga and 64 Bundesliga 2 appearances, plus 11 games in the DFB-Pokal. Although Grün never played a competitive match for the Foals, he did feature three times for club’s U23s in the fourth tier. Despite that, he had an important role in the dressing room. “Max helped improved us in his own way and always motivated us. We had fun with him,” reflected Yann Sommer. Maybe you’ve learnt to be a bit crazier and more relaxed from me. Life is serious enough and we should all relax a bit more now and again,” said Grün during his farewell speech to the team. “After being a number two and three at Bundesliga clubs over the years, I would like to play regularly now and take on a new challenge. I want to help the team with my 12 years of experience from the Bundesliga.”

Borussia would like to wish Max all the best for the future!
