Borussia to face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in DFB-Pokal first round

Borussia will face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the first round of the DFB-Pokal (6th-9th August), following the cup draw on Sunday evening.

Borussia's first competitive fixture of the 2021/22 season will be away against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Former Foal Thomas Broich conducted the first-round draw on Sunday afternoon, alongside DFB vice-president Peter Frymuth. The games will take place the weekend of 6th to 9th August, with the Bundesliga season getting underway the following weekend. The date and kick-off times for each fixture are usually announced two weeks after the draw. 

Gladbach goalkeeper Tobias Sippel, who played for Kaiserslautern from 1998 to 2015, is looking forward to the game. "I'm very excited to be able to face my former club. I have always been hoping for this fixture to come up and now it's really going to happen. Hopefully we will be able to play in front of the fans, in which case the atmosphere should be something special."

The first round of the DFB-Pokal will take place from 6th to 9th August. The second round will follow on 26th to 27th October. The round of 16 matches will be played in the new year (18th-19th January), with the quarterfinals slated for 1st-2nd March 2022. The semi-finals will take place on 19th-20th April 2022, with the final being hosted at Berlin's Olympiastadion on 21st May 2022.
