Foals set for their first friendly

On Saturday (15:30 CEST), Borussia will play their first pre-season friendly. Head coach Adi Hütter’s first match in charge will be against third-tier side Viktoria Köln at the Grenzlandstadion.

The Foals already have a week of training and a dozen sessions behind them. Tomorrow (Saturday, 15:30 CEST), their first pre-season friendly awaits. Adi Hütter’s first game in the Borussia dugout will be at the Rheydter Grenzlandstadion and the Austrian head coach intends to use all the players at his disposal.

The injured Manu Koné (knee ligament) will have to wait a little longer for his Gladbach debut, while Breel Embolo is still indefinitely out of action following his hamstring injury from the EURO 2020 quarterfinal against Spain. The other Switzerland internationals (Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria), the Germany trio (Matthias Ginter, Florian Neuhaus and Jonas Hofmann), Stefan Lainer (Austria), Marcus Thuram (France) and László Bénes (Slovakia) are all still on holiday.

Reitz returns to training

Ramy Bensebaini is also not quite ready for Borussia’s first friendly. The Algeria international returned from his holiday early and began training yesterday (Thursday). He will be joined next week Rocco Reitz, who caught coronavirus whilst on holiday but has since recovered.

990 spectators in total will be permitted to attend the game against Viktoria Köln at the Grenzlandstadion. Some 300 tickets (standing only) are still available for purchase on the ticket portal. Tickets cost €10 (€5 concession) and under the current coronavirus regulations, spectators do not need to prove a negative test result, vaccination, or recovery from coronavirus. The game will be broadcast on FohlenTV and on Borussia’s YouTube- or Facebook channel.
