Hütter: “We were up to the task” – Kaiserslautern match reaction

We spoke to Matthias Ginter and both coaches after our 1-0 win over 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Monday night.

Matthias Ginter: The first round of the DFB-Pokal is never easy, especially not in Kaiserslautern. We had a good spell just before the break and could have definitely made it 2-0. We were lacking a bit of calmness in the second period. It was a real cup battle, just as we’d expected.

Adi Hütter: All you need to do in the DFB-Pokal is make the next round and we’ve done just that. I’m really happy that we were up to the task tonight and kept a clean sheet too. I have to praise FCK too, though, who put in a good performance and really tested us. Having said that, they only had one good chance, whereas we had six or seven, so it was a deserved victory.

1. FC Kaiserslautern coach Marco Antwerpen: I would have liked to have won the game, as would the lads. They threw everything at them, so I’m really pleased with their performance. That’s how we need to play in the coming league games. I’ll be proud of them if they perform like that again in Berlin on Sunday. Unfortunately at the moment we seem to have forgotten how to score. We need to be calmer in front of goal. If we manage that, we will be able to win games.
