"We were unstoppable!" - #BMGFCB reaction

After a historic 5-0 victory over FC Bayern München in the second round, we heard from Yann Sommer, Jonas Hofmann, sporting director Max Eberl and both sets of coaches.

Yann Sommer: We showed a great reaction to the game in Berlin and put in a great performance, which you need in order to beat Bayern. We started well with the early goal and we really made Bayern pay for their mistakes. We were aggressive when defending and found the space they were giving us. We are very happy to be in the next round and now we obviously want to go as far as possible.

Jonas Hofmann: We managed to do exactly what we set out to, right from the outset. We defended superbly and took our chances clinically at the other end. It really was outstanding, we were unstoppable. And when you’re 3-0 up after 20 minutes it obviously gives you even more momentum. It gives you a lot of freedom which makes everything else later in the game easier. Scoring the fourth shortly after half time meant we had more or less put the game to bed. After that we just dominated and saw it out.

Sporting director Max Eberl: This was a wonderful night and a superb performance by the players, who were absolutely unstoppable, especially in the first half. This is the kind of game you dream of, but never think could actually happen. Bayern came up against a team today that was better than them, simple as that. We should enjoy this. It was a memorable game that will definitely go down in Borussia history.

Head coach Adi Hütter: It was extraordinary game. It’s a wonderful feeling to be the first ever Borussia Mönchengladbach side to knock Bayern out of the DFB-Pokal. Massive compliment to the team, the way they created the goals today was world class. And to not give Bayern a sniff at goal for so long is also outstanding. We are tremendously happy with this historic victory.

Dino Toppmöller (FC Bayern München assistant coach): Congratulations to Borussia Mönchengladbach for this outstanding game – they really deserved this win. We set out to do things very differently. We knew to expect a feisty game and an opposition that would press us high up the pitch early on. So our plan was to keep getting in behind their back line. When we conceded the early goal we had problems in the defence. In the end it was a poor day for us and we are sorry to have played so disappointingly.
