DFB-Pokal: Round of 16 draw on Sunday

The ties for the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal will be drawn on Sunday at 18:30 CEST. Former Germany international Benedikt Höwedes will draw the teams out of the hat.

Thanks to yesterday’s rousing 5-0 win against record DFB-Pokal winners FC Bayern München, The Foals will be in the draw for the last 16 of the cup competition. On Sunday, Adi Hütter’s side will find out who they play in the next round, though the team will be in action against VfL Bochum at BORUSSIA-PARK at the same time.

The eight ties will be drawn at 18:30 CEST by Peter Zimmermann, chairman of SG Ahrtal who lost four sports pitches in July due to flooding and representative of 15 clubs along the Ahr. Sports clubs in other regions were also affected by the catastrophe and their plight will be highlighted on Sunday. Benedikt Höwedes, who made 44 appearances for Germany and is currently part of a coaching training programme with the DFB, will lead the draw.

The round of 16 will be played on 18th and 19th January 2022, and the timings for the ties will be determined in the days following the draw. The quarter finals will be on 1st/2nd March, the semis on 19th/20th April and the final will be played at the Berliner Olympiastadion on 21st May 2022.
