Borussia drawn away to Hannover 96 in DFB-Pokal last 16

The draw for the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal was held on Sunday evening, pitting Borussia Mönchengladbach against second-tier side Hannover 96 for a place in the quarterfinals.

Sunday’s draw was made by 2014 World Cup winner and current Germany team co-ordinator Benedikt Höwedes and Peter Zimmerman, chairman of SG Ahrtal, a club that had four pitches destroyed by the floods in North-Rhine Westphalia.

Borussia were the tenth team out of the hat and were drawn alongside Hannover 96. The last-16 ties will take place early next year, either on Tuesday, 18th January or Wednesday, 19th January. The exact schedule will be confirmed in the coming days.

The Foals are into the last 16 after beating 1. FC Kaiserslautern 1-0 in the first round, and of course recording an historic 5-0 victory over FC Bayern München in the second round on Wednesday night. Hannover beat Eintracht Norderstedt 4-0 in their opening tie, before seeing their way past Fortuna Düsseldorf in round two with a 3-0 win.

Tony Jantschke to retire from professional football
