Three Foals feature as Germany thrash Liechtenstein 9-0

Germany thumped Liechtenstein 9-0 in their penultimate World Cup qualifier. Jonas Hofmann started for Die Mannschaft, with Matthias Ginter and Florian Neuhaus coming off the bench.

Germany continued their perfect start to World Cup qualifying under head coach Hansi Flick, recording their sixth win in as many games as they thrashed Liechtenstein 9-0 in Wolfsburg. Die Mannschaft had already booked their tickets to next year’s World Cup in Qatar during last month’s international break.

Jonas Hofmann started at right-back once again, and also contributed to Germany’s attack. An early red card for Liechtenstein’s Jens Hofer after a foul on Leon Goretzka (10’) saw Ilkay Gündogan put Germany ahead from the spot (11’). Daniel Kaufmann then scored an own goal to make it 2-0, with Leroy Sané (22’) and Marco Reus (23’) putting them 4-0 up at the break.

Hofmann was then taken off at half-time and replaced by Florian Neuhaus. Shortly after, Sané scored again to make it 5-0 (49’). Matthias Ginter then came off the bench in the 72nd minute. Thomas Müller made it half a dozen goals for the hosts in the 76th minute, before Ridle Baku (80’), Müller again (86’) and an own goal from Maximilian Göppel (89’) rounded off a 9-0 victory for the Germans. Next up, Germany will travel to face Armenia in their final World Cup qualifier on Sunday (18:00 CET).
