“There were a lot of dimensions to the way we played” - #BMGSGF reaction

We heard the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 4-0 win over Greuther Fürth on Saturday afternoon.

Lars Stindl: Even though Fürth’s performances haven’t reflected where they are in the table, we made it our mission to put them under pressure right from the off, and we did that well. There were a lot of dimensions to the way we played. Our high press led to a lot of turnovers in promising positions and some great goals. Our positional play was also really good. We moved the ball around really well and deserved to win by four. Credit to the whole team for a really focused and consistent performance across the 90 minutes. I’m obviously happy that I was able to play my part too with three assists.

Yann Sommer: We went into the game with the right mindset and were powerful and aggressive in the challenges. That’s really important coming back off an international break, and it’s something we did well from the start of the match. We were very much in control at 3-0 up and didn’t give anything away at the back. We need to keep going like this in the next games and find that consistency with our performances. If we manage that, we will have a good season. Now we’re looking forward to the derby, which we obviously have every intention of winning. We will need a top performance in Cologne if we want a result there.

Joe Scally: It was a great performance. We did what we set out to do, scored four wonderful goals and can celebrate a comfortable win. It’s a great feeling to come back strong after the international break. The win will give us a lot of confidence for the derby in Cologne next weekend. Hopefully we’ll be able to kick on there. I can’t wait for the match and hope that we will be able to give our fans something to celebrate again.

Adi Hütter: I’m very pleased with what was a deserved win. The way we commanded the game was superb. We managed to take advantage of the space in the centre of the park in the first half – Fürth changed things up in the second half and that made it a little more difficult. Nevertheless, we continued to dominate the match, and we also kept a clean sheet, which is very important; if you think about the defensive options that we were missing today, it’s a real credit to the team.

Greuther Fürth head coach Stefan Leitl: Congratulations to Borussia on their deserved win. We were up against opponents who were better than us in every department. I want to give my team credit though – we showed more stability in the second half after being 3-0 down at the break to ensure that it wasn’t a thrashing. We can learn a lot from our opponents today. We weren’t in the position to offer them a fair fight.

Yann Sommer: "Now we’re looking forward to the derby"
Adi Hütter: "The way we commanded the game was superb"
