Friedrich misses out as Foals begin new training week

Borussia began preparations for Saturday evening’s (18:30 CEST) away trip to VfB Stuttgart, with Marvin Friedrich and Tony Jantschke missing.

After a video analysis session of the recent 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg, head coach Adi Hütter led his team in a 90-minute session on the training pitch, in which they played a game on a reduced pitch following some passing drills. Lars Stindl worked individually on some ball drills as he works on his comeback from a ligament injury, while Marvin Friedrich (cold), Tony Jantschke (knee problems) and Mamadou Doucouré (muscular problems) did not train.

Beyer suspended

“With Tony, it looks like he’ll be able to return on Thursday. Marvin Friedrich still has a few problems with illness and is a big doubt for this weekend’s game,” said head coach Adi Hütter. The Foals will definitely be without fellow defender Jordan Beyer, who is unavailable due to a yellow card suspension. “I was really pleased to be playing again after my long injury break, so it’s frustrating to have to miss out again straight away,” said Beyer.

Hütter: “It will be an intense game”

The two training sessions on Wednesday as well as the final training on Friday will take place behind closed doors. Fans will however be allowed to watch the team train on Thursday at 10:30 CEST for the final time before Saturday’s game. Hütter underlined the importance of the clash against the 17th-placed side. “It will definitely be an intense game that we can’t afford to lose. Stuttgart are actually playing well at the moment but have been very unfortunate. However, the two upcoming games give us an opportunity to put some things right in the table again.”

Jordan Beyer will have to watch from the stands in Stuttgart after picking up five yellow cards.
